Board of Directors Election 2024 Timeline
The Board of Directors approved the following timeline at the February 20th, 2024 meeting for the 2024 election.
- February 21, 2024 - BOD Self Nominations Open
- March 14, 2024 at Noon - Self Nominations Close
- April 16, 2024 - BOD Approves the Election Ballot
- April 17, 2024 - Candidate Statements will be Posted Online
- May 2, 2024 - Electronic Voting Opens - Election Begins
- May 17, 2024 at Noon - Voting Closes
- May 20, 2024 at 4:30pm - Election Committee Certifies Results
- May 21, 2024 - BOD certifies Results of Election
- July 1, 2024 BOD Meeting - New Members Seated
Elections Process FAQ
What should my candidate statement contain?
As part of your self nomination, the attached BOD Self Nomination Form. This statement will be shared with MSA community during the election process. This statement will also be posted on the MSA website during the election and your name will appear on the ballot.
Do I have the required skills and expertise?
Absolutely! The school hires qualified experts in school administration, education and employment law, accounting, and other technical matters. If you are a parent or guardian of an enrolled MSA student and are interested in ensuring MSA’s continued success, you have exactly what we need.
Who is eligible for the MSA Board?
According to the bylaws: Membership on the Board shall be in accord with Minnesota law and consist of three parents (or legal guardians) of enrolled students who are not employed by the school, four licensed teachers who are employed or contracted by MSA, two community members who are not employed by the school and do not have a child enrolled in the school. This year, there are 3 seats up for election (1 Teacher, 1 Parent, 1 Community Member). If you are unsure if you are eligible or if you have a conflict of interest, please check the MSA bylaws or contact the board chair (wsletten@mnmsa.org) to clarify if you are eligible.
How much time is required?
The board typically meets for 2-3 hours on the third Tuesday of each month. There is also a workshop during each month these are typically on Tuesdays. Members are usually expected to serve on at least one BOD committee. There may also be special meetings throughout the year.

Voting:
All parents/guardians, staff, and elected community members are eligble to vote in the BOD elections. Prior to each election the board will send out procedures for electronic voting. Voters who need additional assistance are able to vote in the MSA office.
